Dear Neighbors, Mahalo for allowing me to serve as your District's State Representative. In my first erm in office I was recognized as the Legislator of the Year (2007) by the Hawaii Coalition for a Tobacco Free Hawaii. I am the Vice-Chair of the Health Committee and also serve on the powerful Finance Committee, the Human Services, Housing and International Affairs Committee. In our first term I co-introduced legislation to provide universal healthcare coverage for all of Hawaii's children (HB 1008 for the 2007 Session), which became law and Hawaii became only the second state in the nation, behind Illinois, to provide universal healthcare for children. I also introduced legislation to ensure healthcare to HIV patients and our Kupuna and Keiki. In 2008 I wrote measures which became law to provide for a statewide online organ donor registry program and to recognize Hawaii's caregivers by having the first Saturday in November of year year officially deemed "Caregiver Recognition Day" for all the love and sacrifices they provide to care for our elderly and disabled popluation. I believe that a good legislator must be willing to meet and listen to their constituents. With this in mind, I will be stopping by your home over the fall. I look forward to having the chance to listen to your concerns. Please remember that the doors of our office will always be open to you and your family, because you are my employer & it's your office too. Hawaii State Capitol, Room 436 - Ph. (808) 586-6050. Together, we can continue to build a better community where our families are safe and our children will have opportunities to achieve their dreams.
